Parent Letter

Dear Parents,

I like to send a letter home at the beginning of the school year introducing myself and my classroom to you, since at this stage in your child’s education he/she is beginning to become more independent and may not share this information with you otherwise. Independence is great and a goal I definitely encourage in my classroom, but your child’s educational success still demands your support. I write you this letter hoping to establish a partnership between you and I for this school year and beyond.

My name is Brittney Baldon and this is my eighth year teaching. I am excited for another incredible adventure before me with this new school year and look forward to sharing it with you and your child.

I believe as educators our most important job is to foster curiosity and create interested scholars. It is my goal to instill a love for learning and discovery and an appreciation for its various applications in all of my students this year. A student who enters my classroom declaring that he/she “just is not a science person” unknowingly challenges me to prove them wrong. That being said my curriculum is rigorous and requires much more than memorizing formulas and algorithms, but the promise I make to my students is that it will be far more interesting than memorizing formulas and algorithms too.

I have only one expectation for your child this year: that they do their very best. I reward effort and progress above all else. This applies to all of my students, even those who have breezed through science in the past. I expect those gifted students to go above and beyond. I ask that your child ask for extra support or more challenge whenever necessary. They should also feel free to tell me when I’ve gotten it just right J

I will make every effort to help your child to be comfortable communicating with me and will facilitate regular check-ins. However, I appreciate how difficult that initial communication can be, so I request your help with this. Please encourage your child to keep me updated and always feel free to reach out yourself. If your child is struggling, bored, or feeling anything else except perfectly content please let me know.

Your child’s success is my goal, let’s tackle it together!
